Wasps (Vespula vulgaris)
A wasp’s nest will start in April when hibernation queens emerge and start the process of raising a colony.
She will construct a new nest by chewing up wood and mixing it with saliva to produce paper the nest is at this stage around a golf ball size and can be found anywhere from sheds to loft voids of your home.
After a few weeks the eggs she has laid will go through metamorphosis into small wasps and the nest will then start to grow in size until the autumn when both male and female wasps will mate and the new queens will hibernate and the nest building process will restart the following spring.
The queens from the nest are the lone survivors the rest of the nest dies and becomes redundant it will never be used again the average nest will reach up to 3 feet in diameter and may be attached to rafters in a loft, garage roof, flat roof, hole in the wall even in the ground in the garden anywhere they can build they will!
Why must they be controlled?
The average nest may contain 5000 wasps by the end of summer
Wasps sting venom into its prey and although most people will find it painful some people may get an allergic reaction called anaphylactic shock and immediate medical attention will be required.
Wasps will not go away and will certainly infest a home unless treated we would always recommend a professional pest control operative to attend and treat products purchased from the internet or DIY store may not rid you of this pest it could work out a lot more expensive to try and tackle this pest alone they can also be aggressive and attack in numbers.
